Personal details: 1857, Bridgewater, Vermont - 1921, Chicago, IL photo: Education: 1885 M.D. University of Michigan Work History: established medical practice in Chicago * 1892 began manufacturing active-principle granules for the medical profession * 1900 incorporated operation as Abbott Alkaloidal Company * 1905 became Abbott Laboratories, a general manufacturing and importing business headquartered in Chicago, with branches nationwide and worldwide * established Clinic Publishing Co., which became Abbott Press in 1911 * published "The Alkaloidal Clinic" and, in 1906, "The American Journal of Clinical Medicine" Abbott also co-authored the Text-book of Alkaloidal Therapeutics (1905 and later editions).
